Thanks to the support of U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, the Denver Regional Council of Governments recently secured $820,000 in federal funds through the Congressionally Directed Spending process to reinforce the work of the Area Agency on Aging's Community Care Hub. The funding will be used to assist more older adults in the region and across Colorado access services to address their social needs, such as housing, food security and nutrition, and transportation.

Established in 2022, the Community Care Hub acts as a bridge between healthcare providers and community-based organizations to streamline the delivery of whole-person care for older adults and people with disabilities.

"We are extremely grateful to Sens. Hickenlooper and Bennet for recognizing the importance of this work and advocating for resources that will directly benefit people in our communities," said AJ Diamontopoulos, manager of integrated health at the Area Agency on Aging. "The investment will strengthen the infrastructure and partnerships needed to connect more Coloradans with the services they need to remain healthy, independent and engaged in their communities."

“This critical federal funding will support the Community Care Hub, an important resource that helps connect older adults in the Denver area with community-based organizations so that they can thrive,” said Bennet. “This funding will allow for the hub to expand its capacity and efficiency to better meet the needs of our aging community.”

"Nothing says more about a community than how it treats its seniors,” said Hickenlooper. “Bolstering the Community Care Hub ensures that older Coloradans in the Denver metro have access to the resources and care that they need to improve their quality of life."

Currently, the hub contracts with multiple community-based organizations in the Denver region and continues to build on its network across Colorado. To learn more about it or to join, check out the Community Care Hub online.
